Benefits of our engineered design

Varistem® is manufactured from a carefully formulated material using specialized manufacturing methods. This – in combination with the engineered gear design – gives Varistem® stemming plugs their uniquely high tear strength relative to their flexibility. Numerous vertical grooves (or “gears”) on the outside of the plugs provide structural strength to the plugs, prevent the detonator cord from being crushed, nicked or pulled into the blasthole during insertion, and allows for installation in wet-holes.

Some of the in-field benefits of the material type, manufacturing method and gear design are as follows:

• Won’t collapse in undersized holes or when forced over jagged rocks.
• Won’t damage downlines/detonator cords and is thus detonator cord (tube or wire) friendly.
• Won’t collapse in undersized holes or when forced over jagged rocks. The vertical grooves also serve the purpose of giving structural integrity to the plug
• Provides a compressed hold when used in air-decking
• Easy to install in seconds – in dry holes or wet-holes.
